What types of courses can I apply for?
IDSA offers part-time actor training and is an alternative to a full-time drama school. You can choose to apply for IDSA Online (open to actors worldwide) or the IDSA In-Person Courses based at our London, Los Angeles, Manchester and Birmingham branches.
How long are IDSA courses?
How many classes will I attend?
Students will attend two classes per week (six hours per week) with the option to attend a third class (totalling nine hours per week), for a 12-week semester. There are three semesters in the year: Spring, Summer and Autumn.
To get the most out of IDSA training, we would expect students to train for a minimum of 3 years. However, you have the flexibility to attend for as many semesters (terms) as you wish.
What is the Fresher Course?
Irrespective of previous experience, fresher students ages 21+ who are successful in their audition are automatically placed onto the two-term Fresher Course. In the first semester, students work on developing and mastering the major techniques that will be required throughout their training. Then in the second semester, students get the opportunity to put their work into practice in their In-House Presentation (IHP) which is presented to the faculty. After the IHP performance, fresher students have the chance to potentially move up or down a tier level or stay the same before they join the Adult Core Training Programme (CTP) in their third semester.
Do Young Actors (ages 16-20) take part in the Fresher Course?
If I'm 21 which curriculum will I be enrolled on?
After being accepted into IDSA, if you are 21 (and above) upon entry you will be admitted to the Fresher Course. If you are between the ages of 16-20 you will be enrolled onto the Young Actors Course (YAC). Students move up to the Adult Core Programme in the January after their 21st birthday.Â
Do IDSA Los Angeles students take part in the Fresher Course?

Can I swap my class days/times?
When you audition and join the school you are placed in a class and assigned dates and times. These will fall into the times listed here. Regrettably, you are not able to change your times once they have been confirmed.
Where can I find semester/term dates?
You can find more information about our semester/term dates here.
Do you offer training online?
Yes! We offer online training that is accessible to students worldwide. You can find more information about the course here.
If I choose the Online Course, can I change my mind and move to the In-person Course?
Students may change from online to in-person London, Los Angeles, Manchester or Birmingham provided they give a half term’s notice and dependent on availability.
Does IDSA offer qualifications?
IDSA doesn’t offer an accredited course, instead we offer industry focused and vocational part-time training. With the flexibility to attend for as many semesters (terms) as you wish. Being a student at IDSA also offers opportunities for short courses which may be accredited, depending on the course content.
Does IDSA hold showcases?
Yes! London CTP, Los Angeles, Online (Summer Term) and London YAC, Manchester and Birmingham (Autumn Term) participate in a Showcase season each year. Please Note: Fresher students (those in their first two semesters) do not take part in Showcase and instead complete an In-House Presentation performance. Find out more here.
Why are the tuition fee rates different for each insitution?
Tuition fees are based on the cost of delivery of the course. We budget to give you the best deal but it costs more to put on in-person classes than online. The costs incurred by each institution are different and therefore the fees reflect this.Â
